Toba Tek Singh, September 14, 2025: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Sunday said the federal government has constituted a committee to assess the losses of farmers affected by the recent floods and will also hold discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on recovery efforts.
During his visit to flood-hit areas in Kamalia and Toba Tek Singh, Aurangzeb said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to waive one month’s electricity bills was aimed at easing the burden on victims, many of whom have lost homes, crops, and livelihoods.
“At this moment, the most important task is the rehabilitation of the flood victims,” the minister emphasised, adding that rescue and relief operations had been carried out extensively and water levels in several areas had begun to recede. He said roads and bridges had suffered extensive damage from the floods.
Aurangzeb underlined that relief efforts had been undertaken beyond political considerations, stressing that Pakistan’s economy was showing signs of improvement with foreign investment flowing in. “A climate and agricultural emergency has already been declared, and under this emergency, we will do whatever is necessary,” he added.
The finance minister interacted with local media, highlighting ongoing rescue and relief operations, and assured that the government was making “all-out efforts” to deal with the aftermath of the floods.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) reported that inflows in the Indus River at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages in Sindh continued to rise as floodwaters from Punjab moved downstream.
At Guddu Barrage, a high-level flood was recorded with inflows of 561,000 cusecs, while Sukkur Barrage registered a moderate-level flood at 480,000 cusecs. Kotri Barrage reported a low-level flood with inflows of 271,000 cusecs.
In Punjab, water levels showed a mixed trend. The Indus at Kot Mithan (Rajanpur) and Chachran Sharif dropped to 11.5 feet, while the Chenab River at Head Panjnad remained at extremely high flood levels with a flow near 460,000 cusecs.
The Sutlej River witnessed moderate flooding at Ganda Singh Wala and Head Islam, and a low-level flood at Head Sulemanki. In the Ravi River, the flow at Head Sidhnai decreased to a low-level flood.
