Islamabad, September 16, 2025: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman has filed an intra-court appeal against the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision declaring his appointment unlawful and ordering his removal.
The appeal, submitted under the Intra-Court Appeal Ordinance, 1972, contests Justice Babar Sattar’s ruling, arguing that both his initial appointment as Member (Administration) on May 24, 2023, and his subsequent elevation to chairman on May 25, 2023, were carried out in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
Rehman maintains in the petition that he has been discharging his duties strictly in line with legal and regulatory requirements, and that the IHC verdict was unwarranted. The appeal requests the court to uphold the legality of his appointment and reinstate him as chairman, while also seeking an immediate suspension of the IHC judgment until the matter is finally decided.
Calling for an urgent hearing, the PTA chairman emphasized that the issue directly affects the leadership of a vital regulatory authority overseeing Pakistan’s telecommunications sector.
This latest development adds another chapter to the ongoing legal wrangling over PTA’s top office, which plays a pivotal role in regulating the country’s telecom and digital landscape.
