London – Oxford University finds itself in a complicated situation over the eligibility of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to participate in the election for its next Chancellor, according to a report by a British newspaper.

The report states that the university was unprepared for the complexities surrounding what was expected to be a straightforward process. To determine whether the PTI founder meets the criteria to run for Chancellor, Oxford has sought legal advice.

The race for the prestigious role began after Lord Patten of Barnes announced his retirement. For the first time, Oxford University will hold the election for Chancellor through an online popularity vote, allowing alumni to rank candidates in order of preference.

Among the candidates are Lord William Hague, Lord Peter Mandelson, Lady Elish Angiolini, and Dr. Margaret MacMillan.

Oxford University is expected to announce the eligible candidates for the Chancellor election this week, with the new Chancellor set to be revealed by the end of the year, once all electoral processes are complete.
