London, September 29, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said Pakistan’s political and military leadership remain united on all major issues, including foreign policy, adding that the country is moving forward with “consultation, harmony and a shared vision.”
Speaking at the Pakistan High Commission in London after concluding a diplomatic tour of the United States and Saudi Arabia, the premier stressed that mutual coordination between institutions was crucial for Pakistan’s progress.
“We consult on every issue. We are on the same page and making sincere efforts,” he said. “I pray for this coordination and harmony to help Pakistan not only overcome past losses but also reach new heights.”
The prime minister hailed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing him as a “true nationalist” and “a man of vision and bravery.” He said under Munir’s leadership, the armed forces had achieved “remarkable successes,” while decisions were being made collectively “for Pakistan’s better future.”
Shehbaz also said the world had recognised Pakistan’s military strength following the recent Marka-e-Haq, noting that the armed forces had displayed “outstanding professional acumen” in conventional warfare while maintaining nuclear capability solely for defence.
Referring to his meetings in New York and Washington, the premier praised US President Donald Trump for helping avert a regional conflict in South Asia and for his ongoing diplomatic efforts in conflict zones including Gaza, Ukraine, and Africa.
“Pakistan has nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Shehbaz confirmed, calling him “a man of peace” whose recent engagements with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other Muslim leaders had raised hopes of a Gaza ceasefire.
Shehbaz termed the recently signed Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) with Saudi Arabia a milestone, clarifying that the pact “is not against any country” but a formalisation of decades-old ties.
“Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are brotherly nations. This agreement only strengthens our historic bond,” he said, adding that Pakistan’s focus remained on economic growth rather than regional power struggles.
The premier acknowledged Pakistan’s fragile economic recovery but insisted that macroeconomic stability had been achieved. He underlined the potential of agriculture, artificial intelligence, minerals, and the youth population as growth drivers.
“We must seize this moment. Friendly countries — including the Gulf states, Saudi Arabia, the US, and China — are willing to support us. What we lack is the will. If we have that, nothing can stop Pakistan’s progress,” he asserted.
Responding to a question, Shehbaz admitted terrorism had resurfaced due to “imprudent decisions of the past,” but said security forces were actively targeting militant groups including the TTP, BLA, and other foreign-backed outfits.
The prime minister also spoke about the devastating floods that have killed over 1,000 people and destroyed thousands of villages. He appealed for unity and resilience, vowing that Pakistan would not let natural disasters derail its development agenda.
