Rajiv Shukla’s Asia Cup trophy request declined by ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi: sources

Dubai, September 30, 2025: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dubai on Tuesday, chaired by ACC President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, saw an unusual development regarding the handover of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy, Pakistani media reported citing sources.

According to reports, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajiv Shukla requested the trophy from Naqvi during the meeting. However, Naqvi reportedly refused, noting that the matter was not on the meeting’s agenda.

Sources said Shukla pressed the request, but Naqvi responded: “If the Indian team wants the trophy, the captain can come to the ACC office and collect it from me.” No formal decision was taken on the handover.

The controversy comes after India’s men’s cricket team, despite winning the final against Pakistan, did not collect their winners’ medals or the Asia Cup trophy during the post-match presentation ceremony at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The presentation ceremony began after a one-hour delay amid reports of a standoff between the ACC and the Indian team, who allegedly refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi.

While individual prizes were distributed — with Kuldeep Yadav named the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, Abhishek Sharma the Player of the Tournament, and Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha receiving the runners-up chKuleque — the Asia Cup trophy itself was never awarded.

Presenter Simon Doull confirmed during the live broadcast: “I have been informed by the ACC that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation.”

India won the Asia Cup final by five wickets after chasing Pakistan’s 146-run target in 19.4 overs. Sahibzada Farhan’s half-century had given Pakistan a solid start, but Kuldeep Yadav’s crucial breakthrough triggered a collapse, with Pakistan losing eight wickets for just 33 runs in 38 balls.
