Pakpattan, October 8, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced on Wednesday that 1,500 green buses will be operational across the province by December 2025, marking a major step towards sustainable urban transport under the Suthra Punjab Initiative.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of electric buses in Pakpattan, the Chief Minister said the initiative had “exceeded expectations,” transforming smaller cities like Pakpattan into cleaner and greener spaces. She emphasized that improving smaller cities was her top priority to ensure equitable development across Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz said that under the Suthra Punjab project, 35,000 modern cleaning machines had been procured, enabling province-wide cleanliness operations “without discrimination.”

Highlighting the features of the new electric buses, she said they are equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and separate seating for women, ensuring comfort, safety, and inclusivity.

She noted that while modern public transport was previously available only in major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Bahawalpur, the new fleet of 1,100 green buses will expand affordable travel options across Punjab, with fares as low as Rs20.

The Chief Minister added that by April or May next year, another 500 buses will join the fleet. She also directed district administrations to set up proper bus stops along all routes within three months to facilitate passengers.

Discussing other provincial initiatives, Maryam Nawaz said that under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing scheme, construction of 90,000 homes had already begun within seven to eight months, and between 500,000 and 700,000 families are expected to receive homes over the next five years.

She further said that under the Kisan Card scheme, farmers are being provided interest-free loans of up to Rs150,000 per crop, while a historic fertilizer subsidy is also being introduced to support the agriculture sector.
