Karachi, October 24, 2025: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Salman Naseer, has confirmed that the league management is actively considering adding two new teams and expanding matches to six venues for the upcoming 11th edition of the tournament, scheduled for next year.

Speaking on the official PSL Podcast, Naseer revealed that discussions with stakeholders and franchise owners were “seriously focused on expanding the league’s footprint beyond the current four cities — Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi.”

“Everyone wants our footprint to increase beyond these four cities. We are very seriously considering that this time we have to go to six venues. By the will of Almighty Allah, PSL 11 will be played across six venues,” Naseer said.

He confirmed that Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium and Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium are being considered as the two new venues for the 2026 season.

“Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium is almost ready, with only minor upgrades needed to meet PSL and international cricket standards,” he noted. “We’ve already assessed the venue, identified areas of improvement, and hope to have it ready for PSL 11.”

Naseer added that Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium has also started hosting matches in preparation for next year’s PSL, hinting at its likely inclusion in the official schedule.

The PSL CEO also reiterated plans to implement a “home and away” concept, allowing each franchise to host matches in its respective city — a format long discussed but yet to be fully realized.

“It’s important for Karachi to play in Karachi, Lahore in Lahore, Multan in Multan. Islamabad currently plays in Rawalpindi, which is nearby, but Quetta and Peshawar have faced challenges hosting home fixtures. We’re determined to fix that,” he said.

Discussing the expansion of teams, Naseer confirmed that the tender process for two new franchises is expected to begin in November 2025, with significant investor interest already emerging.

“The plan is to have two new teams for PSL 11. The sales and tender process will begin in November. There’s a lot of interest, and it looks like there will be strong competition for ownership,” he added.

The addition of new teams and venues would mark the biggest expansion in PSL history, which currently features six franchises: Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators.

If approved, PSL 11 would see the league expand to eight teams, enhancing both geographic reach and commercial value, while providing fans in Peshawar and Faisalabad long-awaited opportunities to witness PSL action live in their home cities.
