Karachi, November 4, 2025: The Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, met with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday to explore avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, renewable energy, education, and culture.

During the meeting, Ambassador Stoenescu underscored Romania’s interest in strengthening economic engagement with Sindh, particularly in industrial manufacturing, textiles, food processing, information technology, and renewable energy sectors.

He proposed the establishment of a Romania–Sindh Economic Dialogue Platform to connect business chambers from both sides and facilitate investment linkages. The envoy also encouraged Romanian companies to participate in Sindh’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Both sides discussed collaboration in wind and solar energy projects in the Jhimpir Corridor, as well as agriculture, agro-industry, and maritime cooperation. The ambassador noted that an upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Constanța Port and Karachi Port would enhance maritime logistics, trade, and training exchanges.

Dr. Stoenescu also highlighted opportunities for governance and institutional cooperation, offering Romania’s EU-aligned expertise in urban planning, digital administration, and public sector reforms.

On the cultural and educational front, Romania will take part in the World Culture Festival in Karachi, featuring Romanian opera and ballet performances, and in the European Film Festival with a Romanian feature film. The meeting also covered potential university partnerships, scholarship programmes, and the prospective establishment of a Romanian private university campus in Karachi.

Discussions further extended to climate resilience, water management, and sustainable urban development, drawing on Romania’s experience in managing the Danube River Basin. The two sides also explored EU-funded collaboration in health, disaster response, and women’s empowerment.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination and plan a Romanian business delegation visit to Sindh in 2026 to follow up on the initiatives discussed.
