Islamabad, November 13, 2025: Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi said on Thursday that Field Marshal Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has personally assured full security to the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team, dispelling concerns raised by Colombo after recent security incidents.

Naqvi said the assurance was directly conveyed to Sri Lankan officials, following discussions between both governments on the team’s safety during its ongoing tour of Pakistan. He revealed that the Sri Lankan President had contacted him personally, and that both sides had reviewed the security arrangements in detail.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman also confirmed that Sri Lankan authorities had initially expressed reservations over the tour, but Pakistan’s top leadership — including the army chief — had guaranteed comprehensive protection for players and officials.

“The Sri Lankan government’s decision to continue the tour is a demonstration of remarkable courage and trust in Pakistan,” Naqvi said, adding that recent terrorist activity in Islamabad had been traced to elements operating from Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the Senate that Sri Lanka has expressed full support for Pakistan in its fight against terrorism.

The upper house unanimously passed a resolution moved by the law minister, paying tribute to the Sri Lankan government for proceeding with the tour despite security concerns. The resolution described the decision as a symbol of bravery, friendship, and solidarity with Pakistan.

Interior Minister Naqvi thanked the House for its support, saying the resolution reflected the deep and enduring ties between the two nations.
