Muzaffarabad, November 14, 2025: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Friday submitted a no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, effectively bringing to an end the 30-month coalition partnership between the PPP, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Anwarul Haq.

The motion, submitted to the Special Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, bears the signatures of lawmakers Chaudhry Qasim Majeed, Javed Ayub, and Malik Zafar, who handed it over to Senior Special Secretary Amjad Abbasi.

With the political equation shifting rapidly, PPP’s Faisal Rathore is poised to become the fourth Prime Minister of AJK in just four years, reflecting an unprecedented period of political instability in the region.

The AJK Legislative Assembly comprises 53 members. The PPP now commands the support of 36 legislators, comfortably surpassing the simple majority required to oust the prime minister.

The party’s strength has significantly increased from its original 17 members after 10 lawmakers from the Barrister Sultan Group and the Forward Bloc joined its ranks. The PML-N, with its 9 members, has also formally announced its decision to back the PPP in the no-confidence vote.

Sources within the assembly indicate that Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq is likely to resign before the vote takes place, given the overwhelming numerical advantage held by the opposition alliance.

If the vote proceeds as planned, AJK appears set for yet another change in leadership, continuing a turbulent political stretch that has seen frequent changes at the top.
