California, November 14,2025: After the recent electoral victory of New York’s Democrat Mayor Zahran Mamdani, another Muslim political figure has stepped forward on the national stage. Mohammad Arif, a longtime political activist, has formally announced his candidacy for Governor of California in the 2026 elections.

Arif, who has a background in commerce and economics, said he is entering the race “for the people,” emphasizing his belief that “people are power.” He argued that California’s working class, small businesses, and immigrant communities are facing unprecedented economic and social pressures.

In his announcement, Arif said Californians are still suffering from the repercussions of President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, which he claims led to shortages and increased prices of imported goods.

“People are paying the price, and this is the beginning of social depression,” he said, adding that only someone with a strong understanding of economics can “fix what is broken for the people of California.”

Arif pointed to rising operational costs for small businesses, soaring prices of everyday goods, and increasing bankruptcies as signs of an economic system “moving out of control.”

“Rent for apartments and homes is no longer affordable. Gas and groceries are so expensive. People don’t have work,” he said, stressing that the state needs leadership rooted in the struggles of ordinary residents.

Arif described himself as a candidate “for the people,” saying that whether one calls him a socialist or populist, his priority is defending the working class and the poor.

He also highlighted the fear and uncertainty faced by immigrant communities whose legal cases are still pending. “Immigrants are scared of immigration policies and authorities. The freedom and peace people once felt has changed since the Trump administration took over,” he said.

Arif said California needs bold economic intervention and compassionate governance, pledging that, if elected, he would work to strengthen the state’s economy, stabilize prices, and restore a sense of security.

“The dollar is not as strong, businesses are hurting, and people are struggling. I believe I can bring positive change and peace to people’s lives if elected Governor of California in 2026,” he said.
