Peshawar, December 5, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet on Friday approved the withdrawal of cases registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers during the caretaker government on May 9 and 10, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information Shafi Jan said.
The Advocate General’s office has been directed to prepare recommendations for returning the cases. Shafi Jan noted that PTI members named in the cases could face disqualification if convicted.
The decision was taken during the 41st cabinet meeting, chaired via video link by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who also briefed the cabinet on wheat reserves, interprovincial transport, and future strategies. The cabinet approved granting the existing committee authority to procure additional wheat if required.
Other key decisions included financial support for two patients undergoing kidney and bone marrow transplants, allocation of funds for the timely completion of ongoing district development projects, Rs150 million special grant sanctioned for the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), implementation of recommendations to end the Action in Aid of Civil Powers law and formation of a special provincial assembly committee to investigate the Radio Pakistan Peshawar incident.
CM Afridi also condemned the solitary confinement of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, calling it “inhuman, unethical, and illegal.” He criticized the federal ministers’ press conference, warning that it could incite public unrest.
Regarding provincial finances, Afridi highlighted KP’s strong stance at the National Finance Commission (NFC) meeting, noting that shares of merged districts totaling Rs1,375 billion were not included in the NFC award.
The Chief Minister further directed the provision of bulletproof vehicles to district officials and civil officers and stressed that all government recruitments must be conducted through the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), excluding private testing agencies.
