Gujranwala, December 6,2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that former premier Nawaz Sharif had launched major development projects at a time when the country was consumed by “slogans and politicking,” adding that those initiatives had effectively “buried that style of politics.”
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gujranwala mass transport system, the prime minister said the recent election results in Punjab reflected the public’s confidence in the PML-N leadership.
“Over the next three years, the PML-N government has the mandate to serve the people,” he said, urging party members to work tirelessly under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership. He expressed optimism that continued progress and development-oriented governance would bring “pleasant results” for the PML-N in the next general elections.
Shehbaz said the mass transport project would significantly ease mobility for residents of Gujranwala and surrounding areas, calling it a “key initiative to provide public relief.” He described the project as a gift from the Punjab chief minister that would benefit students, patients, labourers, lawyers, and commuters from all walks of life.
The prime minister highlighted Nawaz Sharif’s legacy, saying history would “remember his achievements in golden words,” including Pakistan’s nuclear tests in 1998. Without that milestone, he said, the outcome of the recent border escalation with India in May “would have been different.”
Praising the performance of the Punjab government, he said the province was progressing rapidly under the “dynamic and young leadership” of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who he said was carrying forward Nawaz Sharif’s development vision. He lauded initiatives such as the construction of a cancer hospital, expansion of metro bus services, clean-up and pollution reduction campaigns, housing schemes for the underprivileged, support for flood-hit communities, and the provision of missing facilities in schools.
“These works speak for themselves and, like truth, cannot be ignored—even by political opponents,” he added.
In her remarks, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the development initiatives launched by her government and said the country had witnessed “immense progress” under the PML-N’s leadership.
