Islamabad, December 24,2025: Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, has commended Pakistan’s efforts to combat cancer through the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), highlighting the country’s expanding network of specialised healthcare facilities and trained professionals.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, the IAEA chief acknowledged PAEC’s nationwide network of 20 cancer hospitals, which are providing diagnostic and treatment services to thousands of patients across the country. He also praised the role of skilled Pakistani professionals in strengthening cancer care through the peaceful application of nuclear technology.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan remains firmly committed to further strengthening its partnership with the IAEA across all areas of its mandate, with a particular focus on the Rays of Hope initiative. Under this collaboration, Pakistan aims to further upgrade key institutions such as the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INOR) and expand access to life-saving radiotherapy and advanced diagnostic services, especially for underserved communities.
