Islamabad: Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned any attempts to undermine the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, rejecting Israel’s announcement recognising the independence of the so-called Somaliland region of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

In an official statement, Pakistan termed the move “illegal and provocative,” saying it constituted a flagrant violation of international law and posed a serious threat not only to peace and stability in Somalia but also to the wider region.

“Such actions threaten the peace and stability of the brotherly country of Somalia and the entire region,” the statement said, urging the international community to step in, reject such measures, and prevent Israel from undermining ongoing efforts aimed at regional peace and stability.

Pakistan reiterated its full and unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as for all initiatives directed towards achieving lasting peace and stability in the country.

The statement also reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled stance on Palestine, rejecting any steps aimed at the forced displacement of Palestinians from their land under any circumstances. Pakistan renewed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their just struggle for self-determination and reiterated its call for the establishment of a sovereign, independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
