Islamabad, January 17, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation today with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, discussing the current situation in Iran and regional stability.

The call comes against the backdrop of ongoing unrest in Iran, where widespread anti-government protests have taken place amid severe economic distress, a nationwide internet blackout, and a significant security crackdown. Iran has been experiencing some of the most intense demonstrations since late December 2025, triggered by economic grievances and escalating into broader demands for political change — resulting in mass arrests, fatalities, and continued tensions between protesters and security forces. International concerns have also grown as humanitarian impacts draw global attention and diplomatic responses.

During the discussion, DPM Ishaq Dar expressed hope for peace and stability in Iran and the broader region. Both ministers agreed on the importance of continued bilateral consultations on issues of mutual interest, reaffirming the longstanding diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Iran.

The conversation underscores Islamabad’s diplomatic engagement at a time when Iran’s internal dynamics and regional implications remain a focus of international attention.
