Islamabad, January 19, 2026: Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, Rear Admiral Fred Senevirathne (Retd.), paid a courtesy call on Archbishop Germano Penemote, Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador) of the Holy See to Pakistan, the other day.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner briefed the Apostolic Nuncio on the current political developments in Sri Lanka under the leadership of President. He highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen social cohesion and promote harmony among the country’s diverse communities, underscoring Sri Lanka’s tradition of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
Rear Admiral Senevirathne also discussed the challenges faced by Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the Ditva cyclone, outlining ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts. He acknowledged the support extended by the international community, describing it as vital to the country’s post-disaster rehabilitation.
Archbishop Germano Penemote commended Sri Lanka’s resilience and determination in the face of adversity. He recalled the long-standing cordial relations and cooperation between the Holy See and Sri Lanka, and referred to his close engagements with His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by A. Christy Ruban, Minister, and Chathurika Sankapali, Minister Counsellor at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad.
