Islamabad, January 22, 2026: The newly appointed High Commissioner of Australia to Pakistan, Timothy Kane, on Thursday paid a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez at the Embassy of the Philippines in Islamabad, reaffirming the strong and enduring ties between Australia and the Philippines.

During the meeting, Ambassador Fernandez and High Commissioner Kane underscored the depth of the longstanding friendship between Manila and Canberra and exchanged views on leveraging their respective mandates in Pakistan to further strengthen bilateral relations. Both diplomats expressed optimism about enhancing cooperation through a more dynamic engagement in Pakistan, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

As the highest representatives of their countries in Pakistan, the two envoys highlighted their shared commitment to actively promote closer economic partnerships, facilitate greater mobility of students and professionals, and explore new avenues of cooperation that would benefit both Filipinos and Australians. They also emphasized the importance of working closely with Pakistani counterparts to encourage mutually beneficial trilateral and regional collaboration.

The discussion also covered regional developments of common interest, with both officials expressing their determination to contribute, through their respective diplomatic missions, to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and South Asian regions.

Ambassador Fernandez and High Commissioner Kane agreed to maintain regular dialogue and close coordination to ensure that Philippines–Australia relations continue to grow broader, deeper, and more forward-looking in the years ahead.
