Islamabad, January 22, 2026: Pakistan and Belgium on Thursday held the 4th session of Bilateral Political Consultations in Islamabad, reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen cooperation across a range of key sectors.
The Pakistani side was led by Additional Secretary (Europe) Ambassador Ayesha Ali, while the Belgian delegation was headed by Director General Birgit Stevens. Both sides welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations and agreed to build on existing cooperation in trade, investment, education, health sciences, and people-to-people exchanges.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ayesha Ali expressed appreciation for Belgium’s continued support for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, underscoring its importance for Pakistan’s exports and broader economic engagement with the European Union.
The consultations also featured a detailed exchange of views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, reflecting the shared interest of both countries in international peace, stability, and multilateral cooperation.
As part of the visit, the Belgian delegation also paid a courtesy call on Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, further underlining the importance attached to bilateral dialogue at senior levels.
Both sides agreed to maintain close diplomatic contacts and decided that the next round of Bilateral Political Consultations will be held in Brussels in 2027, signaling a continued commitment to sustained and structured engagement.
