Pakistan, Somalia agree to enhance cooperation in security, counterterrorism

Islamabad, January 23, 2026: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday met a high-level Somali delegation led by Somalia’s Interior Minister Ali Yusuf at the Ministry of Interior, where both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security and other key areas.

Welcoming his Somali counterpart, Minister Naqvi held discussions on Pakistan–Somalia relations and explored avenues for expanding collaboration. The two interior ministers agreed to enhance cooperation in training, border management, and disaster management, while adopting a joint strategy to counter terrorism and extremism. They also decided to deepen coordination in internal security, counterterrorism, and overall security mechanisms.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of improved coordination to advance shared interests across various sectors.

Somalia’s Interior Minister Ali Yusuf expressed a strong desire to benefit from Pakistan’s experience, particularly praising Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s initiatives in infrastructure development in Islamabad, which he described as commendable.

Minister Naqvi assured Somalia of Pakistan’s full support in policing and counterterrorism efforts, adding that Pakistan would extend comprehensive cooperation across multiple sectors, including security and counterterrorism. He also announced visa facilitation for Somali citizens traveling to Pakistan for medical treatment and educational purposes.

The Somali Interior Minister said Somalia was facing a challenging security situation and was actively engaged in efforts to combat terrorism. He expressed hope that the visit would help further expand bilateral relations between the two countries. He also conveyed a special message from the Prime Minister of Somalia to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and formally invited Minister Mohsin Naqvi to visit Somalia.

The Somali delegation included Somalia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Sheikh Noor Mohamed Hassan Hamza Adan; Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Osman Abdullahi; Deputy Police Chief Leiban; Police Chief Advisor Ms. Adal Abdi; Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Interior Ms. Asma Hagi; and Diplomatic Coordinator from the Embassy of Somalia.

From the Pakistani side, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Interior Secretary, Additional Interior Secretary, Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Islamabad, Director General FIA, and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
