Dar calls for stronger, coordinated Pakistan engagement in global IT and telecom forums

Islamabad, January 28, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review Pakistan’s presence and role in multilateral forums related to the Information Technology and Telecommunications sectors.

During the meeting, Senator Dar emphasised the need to significantly enhance Pakistan’s engagement with relevant United Nations bodies dealing with IT and telecom through a well-coordinated, whole-of-government approach. He stressed that closer coordination among all stakeholders is essential to effectively represent Pakistan’s interests and keep pace with rapid global technological developments.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister for IT, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch, Secretary Information Technology, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, along with other senior officials from concerned ministries and departments.

Participants reviewed Pakistan’s current level of participation in international IT and telecom platforms and discussed ways to strengthen policy alignment, technical input and diplomatic engagement to ensure a more impactful presence at global forums.
