Islamabad, January 30, 2026: The Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production on Thursday visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Wah Cantt, under the chairmanship of Senator Mohammed Abdul Qadir, to receive a comprehensive briefing on the organization’s performance, ongoing projects, and future strategy.

Members of the committee, including Senator Dost Ali Jeesar and Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, were part of the parliamentary delegation. During the visit, the committee was briefed on POF’s functions, achievements, Vision 2025 strategic objectives, the Balancing, Modernization and Replacement (BMR) plan, and export earnings over the past five years.

The committee was informed that POF was established in 1951 to meet the ammunition requirements of the Armed Forces of Pakistan and is headed by a serving Lieutenant General of the Pakistan Army. Since its inception, POF has significantly expanded its operational capabilities and is currently exporting ammunition to more than 40 countries.

Appreciating POF’s innovative approach and self-reliance initiatives in defence production, the committee noted that the organization operates through multiple subsidiaries supplying operational equipment and gadgets to the Armed Forces at economical, cost-to-cost rates. Members were also informed about several projects in the pipeline aimed at further enhancing POF’s production capacity and operational efficiency.

While acknowledging the profitability of the global arms industry, the committee chairman directed the Ministry of Defence Production to explore avenues for the commercialization of POF products in both domestic and international markets to maximize economic returns.

The committee was also briefed on POF Wah Cantt’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These include memoranda of understanding with leading engineering universities, a dedicated training institute for skilled human resource development, and active contributions in education, healthcare, sports, and environmental sustainability. Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri emphasized extending such CSR initiatives to Balochistan and other underdeveloped regions to nurture local talent and provide opportunities to deserving youth.

During the visit, committee members toured various production units and observed manufacturing processes firsthand. Expressing satisfaction over POF’s performance, the committee commended the professionalism, dedication, and technical capabilities of its management and workforce.

The committee stressed the importance of private-sector engagement in defence production to conserve foreign exchange and boost exports. The chairman assured full support of the Standing Committee for such initiatives and underscored the need to fully harness Pakistan’s armament export potential for national economic growth.
