Islamabad, February 2, 2026: Ambassador of the Philippines to Pakistan, Emmanuel R. Fernandez, along with his spouse, Alice Kalaw-Fernandez, participated in the 2026 Islamabad Tourism, Sports and Family Festival, a vibrant event celebrating Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, sports traditions, and family-oriented tourism.
The festival brought together diplomats, local communities, and international guests, serving as a platform to promote tourism, cultural exchange, and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and partner countries, including the Philippines. Through such initiatives, the festival highlighted the importance of mutual understanding and friendship among nations by showcasing shared values of culture, hospitality, and community.
A key highlight was the traditional tent pegging competition, a historic equestrian sport deeply rooted in the region’s heritage. Ambassador Fernandez witnessed the competition, which displayed the remarkable skill, discipline, and horsemanship of the participants, offering international guests a glimpse into Pakistan’s sporting traditions.
In recognition of his presence, Ambassador Fernandez was honoured with a shamla—a traditional turban symbolizing respect and hospitality—by the festival host, alongside other ambassadors in attendance. The gesture reflected the warmth and inclusivity extended to the diplomatic community during the event.
The Philippine Embassy’s Colonel Wilbert Divina, TSG Francisco Montuerto, and their spouses also attended, reaffirming the Philippines’ commitment to strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties with Pakistan and highlighting the role of cultural and sports diplomacy in fostering goodwill and lasting international partnerships.
