Islamabad, February 13, 2026: The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad, in coordination with relevant authorities, successfully facilitated a humanitarian medical evacuation of Sea Marshal Rohan Jayasinghe, a former senior sailor of the Sri Lanka Navy and an employee of a leading private maritime company. He fell critically ill while deployed aboard a vessel in the Arabian Sea, approximately 800 nautical miles off Karachi.
Following the medical emergency, the High Commission worked closely with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Karachi, the Pakistan Navy, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Colombo, and other stakeholders to ensure a swift response. Their coordinated efforts resulted in the successful execution of the evacuation operation.
With prompt assistance from the Pakistan Navy, Jayasinghe was transported to Karachi Port on January 27 after a five-day passage, during which he received continuous onboard medical care. He was later admitted to a hospital in Karachi for further treatment and, following three days of medical supervision, was safely transferred to Colombo in stable condition.
The High Commission expressed profound appreciation to the Pakistan Navy for its rapid response and deployment of a naval vessel, as well as to the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres in Colombo and Karachi, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi, and all relevant parties for their cooperation throughout the mission.
Officials noted that the professionalism, close coordination, and humanitarian commitment demonstrated by all involved were instrumental in ensuring Jayasinghe’s recovery and safe transfer. The operation highlights the strong partnership between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, particularly in maritime safety, humanitarian assistance, and mutual support.
