Islamabad, February 13, 2026: Learning new languages creates pathways to understanding cultures and building lasting global connections, said Greek Ambassador Eleni Porichi while addressing students at the International Greek Language Day Competition held in the federal capital.
Speaking to an enthusiastic audience, the ambassador encouraged students to explore the richness of the Greek language, delve into its ancient heritage, and consider the diverse educational opportunities available in Greece. She commended the active participation of students and highlighted the importance of cultural and academic exchanges in strengthening ties between Greece and Pakistan—two nations with proud and historic civilizations.
The high-profile event was hosted by Roots International Schools & Colleges in collaboration with the Embassy of Greece in Islamabad at the institution’s Wellington Campus. Students from various educational institutions gathered to celebrate learning, dialogue, and cultural exchange centered on the Greek language.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Porichi emphasized that language learning extends beyond vocabulary. “Learning a language is not just about words; it is about understanding people, traditions, and the spirit of another nation,” she noted, describing language as a powerful bridge between cultures.
She applauded the growing interest among Pakistani students in Greek studies and encouraged them to pursue higher education in Greece, noting that Greek universities offer internationally recognized academic programs alongside a vibrant cultural experience.
In her concluding remarks, the ambassador expressed appreciation to Roots International Schools & Colleges and partner organizations for successfully organizing the event and promoting Greek language and heritage in Pakistan.
CEO of Roots International Schools & Colleges, Walid Mushtaq, also addressed the ceremony, stating that such competitions spark curiosity and expose students to global cultures and languages. He observed that collaboration with the Greek embassy, Metropolitan University College, and other academic partners is opening new avenues for institutional cooperation between the two countries.
Mushtaq added that these partnerships help strengthen educational systems and prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world. He described the competition as a significant step toward deeper people-to-people connections between Pakistan and Greece, emphasizing that foreign language learning equips students with essential skills for future international engagement.
Held under the theme “Compete. Converse. Celebrate Greek,” the competition featured interactive language activities and vibrant cultural performances reflecting both Greek and Pakistani traditions, highlighting shared values and mutual respect.
The celebration also underscored the global importance of the Greek language. Following recognition by UNESCO of its historic contribution to world culture, February 9 has been officially designated as World Greek Language Day in support of multilingualism and cultural diversity.
The event concluded with Ambassador Porichi distributing tablets to participating students in recognition of their enthusiasm and dedication. Organizers noted that the initiative aims to raise awareness of Greek culture while encouraging Pakistani youth to explore new languages and broaden their global perspectives.
With its vibrant energy and international spirit, the Islamabad competition proved to be more than an academic gathering—it stood as a celebration of friendship, culture, and the unifying power of language.
