Islamabad, February 18, 2026: Albert P. Khorev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Pakistan, delivered a lecture on Russia–Pakistan relations to students of Bahria University on Wednesday.
Addressing the students, Ambassador Khorev noted that despite the complexities of international relations, cooperation between Moscow and Islamabad has historically remained constructive. He cited several major industrial projects implemented in Pakistan with the support of the former Soviet Union during the 1970s and 1980s, including the construction of the Pakistan Steel Mills and the Guddu Thermal Power Plant.
He emphasized that contemporary Russia–Pakistan relations are marked by increasingly dynamic political, economic, and humanitarian engagement, reflecting a positive trajectory in bilateral ties.
During the lecture, Ambassador Khorev also briefed students on the situation in and around Ukraine. He outlined what he described as the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis and criticized the role of Western countries in destabilizing the broader Eurasian region.
The Ambassador further drew attention to what he termed Russia’s efforts to protect the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.
On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Khorev met with the Rector of Bahria University, Abid Hameed, Vice Admiral (Retd.) HI(M). The two sides discussed prospects for developing partnerships between Bahria University and relevant Russian universities and expressed mutual interest in expanding academic cooperation and exchanges.
The lecture and accompanying discussions underscored growing engagement between Russia and Pakistan not only at the governmental level but also in academic and people-to-people domains.
