Beijing, February 26, 2026: Trade relations between China and Germany continued to strengthen in 2025, with bilateral trade expanding at a faster pace than China’s overall foreign trade, official data showed.
According to the General Administration of Customs, two-way trade in goods between China and Germany reached 1.51 trillion yuan (approximately 217.83 billion U.S. dollars) in 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.2 percent. The growth rate was 1.4 percentage points higher than China’s total foreign trade expansion for the year.
Germany retained its position as China’s largest trading partner in Europe, while China reclaimed its status as Germany’s top trading partner after a one-year lapse. Machinery and electrical products dominated bilateral trade, underscoring the strong industrial complementarities between the two economies.
Trade in machinery and electrical goods totaled 1.07 trillion yuan in 2025, up 5.8 percent year on year, accounting for more than 70 percent of total China–Germany trade.
As the world’s second- and third-largest economies, China and Germany maintain an all-round strategic partnership, with economic cooperation serving as a key pillar of their relationship.
In a related development, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for an official visit to China through Thursday. He is accompanied by a business delegation of executives from around 30 major German companies, representing sectors including automotive manufacturing, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
