Islamabad, March 7, 2026: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has informed the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations that he will not be able to attend upcoming Commonwealth meetings in London due to the evolving regional situation, the Foreign Office said on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar spoke on Friday night with Shirley Botchwey and conveyed that ongoing regional developments would prevent him from participating in the forthcoming meetings of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) and the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting.
The foreign minister said that High Commissioner of Pakistan to the United Kingdom in London has been authorized to represent the country at the meetings in his absence.
During the conversation, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment and contributions to the Commonwealth and extended his felicitations to the Secretary-General and the wider Commonwealth community on the occasion of Commonwealth Day, which will be observed on March 9.
Pakistan remains an active member of the Commonwealth and continues to engage with the organization on issues related to democracy, development, and international cooperation.
