Karachi, April 7, 2026: Former champions Islamabad United faced a tense moment during a net session at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre on Tuesday when young pacer Mir Hamza Sajjad was struck on the head by a ball and briefly lost consciousness.

The incident occurred as New Zealand batter Mark Chapman, currently part of the Islamabad United squad, played a shot that he failed to track. The ball hit Hamza Sajjad on the back of the head, causing him to collapse.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Sources confirmed that Sajjad is now conscious, vitally and hemodynamically stable. As a precaution, a CT scan will be conducted to rule out any underlying injuries.

The accident cast a sombre mood over the Islamabad United camp, halting practice, with players and support staff visibly distressed. Team management has not yet issued an official statement, though news of Hamza Sajjad’s stable condition has offered relief to teammates and fans.

The Gujrat-born right-arm pacer, picked by Islamabad United in the first-ever PSL players’ auction for PKR 70 lacs, is considered a promising talent. He has played six T20 matches, taking eight wickets, and claimed 25 wickets in eight First-Class matches. He is yet to make his PSL debut.

On the PSL points table, the Shadab Khan-led Islamabad United currently sit third, with two wins, one defeat, and one washed-out match, totaling five points and a net run rate of 1.055. They are scheduled to face defending champions Lahore Qalandars in their fifth PSL 11 match at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday.

The team and fans will be watching closely as Hamza Sajjad recovers, hoping for a swift and full return to cricket.
