Islamabad, April 14, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee to oversee fuel subsidies and austerity measures, reaffirming the government’s commitment to economic stability and public relief.

According to an official statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Petroleum Minister briefed participants on the current fuel supply situation in relation to national consumption. He also shared updates on ongoing efforts to source fuel from alternative regions unaffected by the ongoing war, ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies for the country.

During the meeting, Ishaq Dar stressed the importance of implementing the Prime Minister’s austerity measures in their true spirit to promote fiscal discipline and efficient resource utilization.

The committee was also apprised of progress made under the fuel subsidy programme. Emphasizing transparency and efficiency, the Deputy Prime Minister directed authorities to ensure that payments are effectively tracked to alleviate the financial burden on the common man.

The high-level meeting was attended by the Minister for Information Technology, Federal Secretaries of Petroleum, Information Technology, and Telecom, as well as the Chief Secretaries of all four provinces. Chief Secretaries of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) also participated, along with other relevant stakeholders.

The session underscored the government’s resolve to maintain energy security, promote fiscal responsibility, and provide targeted relief to citizens amid evolving regional and global challenges.
