Doha/Jeddah, April 16, 2026: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and international coordination in response to the evolving regional situation.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the prime minister is on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye from April 15 to 18, accompanied by a high-level delegation. The meeting with the Qatari Emir took place shortly after his arrival in Doha, following the conclusion of his visit to Saudi Arabia.
In a statement shared on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz described his interaction with the Qatari leadership as “warm and cordial.” The two leaders discussed the evolving situation in the Gulf region and underscored the need for peaceful dialogue and diplomatic engagement to ensure regional stability.
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s strong condemnation of attacks targeting Qatar and other regional countries, expressing full solidarity with the Qatari people. He also thanked the Emir for the gesture of deploying Qatari fighter jets to escort his aircraft upon entering Qatari airspace, calling it a reflection of Qatar’s hospitality and enduring friendship with Pakistan.
Both sides reviewed deep-rooted bilateral ties and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in key sectors, including security, defence, and energy. They also stressed the importance of maintaining smooth global energy supply chains and strengthening international coordination to safeguard regional peace.
The meeting at the Amiri Diwan lasted over an hour and included a one-on-one session between the two leaders. The Qatari Emir appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting diplomatic dialogue and supporting de-escalation efforts in the region.
Senior Qatari officials present at the meeting included Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Amiri Diwan Chief Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi. The Pakistani delegation comprised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, among other senior officials.
Following the talks, the Qatari Emir hosted a luncheon in honour of the Pakistani premier and his delegation.
Saudi Arabia visit concludes
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz concluded his visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and the evolving regional situation, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening strategic ties.
During his visit, the prime minister also traveled to Madinah, where he offered prayers at Masjid-e-Nabawi (PBUH) for Pakistan’s progress and global peace. He was received by Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Governor of Madinah.
According to official statements, the Saudi leadership appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in promoting peace, including its role in facilitating dialogue amid regional tensions.
Participation in Antalya Diplomacy Forum
As part of his ongoing tour, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to visit Türkiye to participate in the fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum, where he will present Pakistan’s perspective on regional and global peace alongside other world leaders.
The visit underscores Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic engagement aimed at fostering stability, strengthening bilateral relations, and promoting constructive dialogue across the region.
