Islamabad, November 8, 2024 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving a target of $25 billion in IT exports over the next three years, underscoring its efforts to advance the telecommunications sector.

In a meeting with VEON Group’s five-member delegation, led by Chairman Augie K Fabela, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government is actively working to roll out 5G services across Pakistan, aiming to ensure fast, reliable internet connectivity, even in remote areas. The deployment of 5G is a critical step toward realizing the government’s “Digital Pakistan” vision.

He noted that the telecommunications sector plays a vital role in supporting a cashless and digital economy and praised Jazz, a VEON Group subsidiary, for its contributions to Pakistan’s telecommunications and fintech sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also expressed a willingness to collaborate with VEON Group in areas such as IT, digitization, and artificial intelligence. The delegation members commended the government’s efforts toward economic stability, highlighting Pakistan as an increasingly attractive investment destination for the IT and telecom industries.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for IT and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Pervaiz Malik, PM’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, and other senior officials.
