Islamabad, May 14,2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a follow-up meeting of the committee constituted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to continue deliberations on tax policy proposals for the upcoming federal budget.

The meeting reviewed progress on a range of proposals aimed at shaping a balanced and growth-oriented tax framework for the next fiscal year.

Participants emphasized the need for measures focused on broadening the tax base, increasing revenue generation, and promoting investment and economic growth, while ensuring relief for compliant taxpayers.

The committee reiterated that revenue-enhancing policies should not place an additional burden on taxpayers who are already complying with tax laws.

Officials also discussed strategies to improve economic activity and strengthen fiscal sustainability through reforms and efficient taxation policies.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, Secretary Finance, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, and senior officials from relevant ministries.
