Murree/Rawalpindi, May 21, 2026: Authorities in Murree have imposed a comprehensive “Strategic Action Plan” ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holidays, enforcing Section 144 and introducing strict security and traffic management measures to handle the expected influx of tourists.

According to Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer, the city’s central areas, including the famous Mall Road, have been declared exclusive family zones during the holidays. Under the restrictions, non-family gatherings will not be allowed in designated areas, while strict action will be taken against aerial firing, public display of weapons, skating, and one-wheelieing.

The District Police Officer said Murree Police had deployed a modern “Smart Crowd and Traffic Management Model” in anticipation of hundreds of thousands of visitors expected during Eid.

Dr. Tanveer stated that the strategy had been designed using data analytics from last year’s Eid tourism rush, during which vehicle inflow surged dramatically over several days. According to official figures, Murree recorded 26,385 vehicles on June 7 last year, increasing to 52,721 on June 8 and reaching a peak of 69,218 vehicles on the third day of Eid, June 9.

The heavy traffic volume continued in the following days, with 58,232 vehicles entering Murree on June 10, followed by 49,642 on June 11, 46,176 on June 12, and 48,743 on June 13.

To manage the expected crowds and maintain law and order, more than 700 personnel have been deployed, including 500 police and security officials along with 200 special traffic wardens.

The DPO said authorities had also introduced the “Safe Tourism Murree” mobile application to facilitate tourists. The app provides live traffic updates and includes a “Text to DPO” feature, enabling visitors to directly contact the district police officer during emergencies.

“Moving away from traditional policing, our ultimate objective is to offer families a secure, organized, and world-class tourism environment,” Dr. Raza Tanveer said.

Meanwhile, the administration has issued a travel advisory urging tourists to ensure the fitness of their vehicles, particularly brakes, tires, and engine conditions, before traveling to Murree’s hilly terrain.

Visitors have also been advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid traveling during peak congestion periods, especially on the second and third days of Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
