Islamabad, June 7, 2026: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, on the occasion of World Oceans Day 2026 (June 8), emphasized the urgent need for collective global and national efforts to protect marine ecosystems and ensure the sustainable use of ocean resources for future generations.
Highlighting this year’s theme, “Reimagine”, the Chairman Senate said that oceans are not distant entities but a vital source of life, climate balance, food security, and economic opportunity. He noted that Pakistan, as a coastal nation with vast maritime potential, bears a shared responsibility to preserve marine biodiversity and combat threats such as pollution, overfishing, and climate change.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani stressed that the protection of oceans is essential not only for environmental sustainability but also for economic resilience, particularly in sectors linked to fisheries, trade, and the blue economy. He underscored the importance of raising awareness, strengthening environmental governance, and promoting sustainable maritime practices.
The Chairman Senate urged all stakeholders, including policymakers, institutions, civil society, and youth, to work together in safeguarding oceans and marine resources. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international efforts aimed at protecting marine ecosystems and promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
