Islamabad, June 8, 2026: Pakistan on Monday strongly rejected what it termed as “irresponsible and ill-informed” remarks made by certain members of the diaspora in the United Kingdom regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), urging them to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Pakistan and AJK.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said such individuals should focus on making positive contributions to their country of residence rather than commenting on matters concerning Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The statement also criticized remarks and questions raised by some British Members of Parliament, describing them as unwarranted and reflective of a lack of understanding of the historical context of the issue.
“Pakistan is a sovereign and democratic republic that firmly believes in non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and expects the same principle to be respected by others,” the Foreign Office said.
The spokesperson emphasized that the governments of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir fully recognize and uphold citizens’ constitutional rights, including the rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, and democratic participation.
However, the statement stressed that acts of vandalism, destruction of public infrastructure and services—including hospitals—as well as the killing of innocent civilians and law enforcement personnel, could not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The Foreign Office further urged the British government to educate and caution individuals supporting proscribed organizations against engaging in such activities. It also called on them to respect the democratic process, judicial decisions, and the rule of law as enshrined in the constitutions of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to democratic values, constitutional governance, and the maintenance of law and order.
