Islamabad/Tehran, June 22, 2026: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will undertake an official visit to Pakistan on Tuesday at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) announced on Monday.

President Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers and senior government officials. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the Foreign Office, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will also call on the visiting Iranian president.

“This will be Dr. Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as President of Iran,” the FO said in a statement.

The Foreign Office noted that the two sides will review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues for enhancing cooperation in key areas, including trade, energy, border security, people-to-people contacts, and regional connectivity.

The visit will also provide an opportunity for discussions on ongoing diplomatic engagements following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest.

“The forthcoming visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Iran to further deepen their historic and cultural ties and underscores their common aspiration for peace, stability, and sustainable progress in the region,” the FO stated.

President Pezeshkian’s visit comes in the wake of significant diplomatic developments, including direct talks between the United States and Iran held in Switzerland under the framework of the Islamabad MoU signed on June 18.

The negotiations, informally referred to as the “Lake Lucerne Summit,” marked the beginning of a new diplomatic process aimed at reducing regional tensions. Under the 14-point agreement reached during the talks, Washington and Tehran agreed on a framework to end hostilities, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and negotiate key outstanding issues within 60 days.

The US-Iran discussions at the Swiss resort of Burgenstock were facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir playing key mediating roles on behalf of Pakistan.

The summit established a mechanism for continued technical-level negotiations and created communication channels aimed at maintaining stability in the Strait of Hormuz and preventing renewed conflict in Lebanon.

In a joint statement, the mediators said “encouraging progress” had been achieved, including the establishment of a direct contact mechanism designed to avoid incidents and miscommunication in the strategically important waterway.

The parties also agreed to establish a de-confliction cell involving Lebanese authorities to help prevent any resurgence of hostilities in the region.

Observers view President Pezeshkian’s upcoming visit as a significant step in strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations and advancing regional diplomacy at a critical juncture for Middle Eastern security and stability.
