Islamabad, June 24, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Wednesday, during which the two leaders discussed regional peace efforts, bilateral relations, and ongoing diplomatic developments.
During the warm and cordial conversation, the Amir congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts that culminated in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran. He praised the Prime Minister’s leadership and expressed Qatar’s full support for Pakistan’s initiatives aimed at promoting peace and regional stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Qatari leadership for its consistent support of the peace process. He acknowledged the contributions of Pakistan’s military leadership, particularly Syed Asim Munir, as well as the constructive roles played by brotherly countries, including Qatar, in advancing diplomatic efforts.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the first round of technical-level talks held in Bürgenstock and agreed that the positive momentum generated by the discussions should be sustained to ensure successful negotiations. They also emphasized the importance of safeguarding the dialogue process from elements seeking to undermine peace efforts.
During the conversation, the Amir of Qatar conveyed his condolences over the death of a Pakistani national in a fire incident at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City. Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked him for the gesture and appreciated Qatar’s continued support and hospitality towards the Pakistani community residing in the Gulf state, which now numbers more than 300,000 people.
Recalling his visits to Doha earlier this year, the Prime Minister renewed his invitation to the Amir to visit Pakistan. In response, Sheikh Tamim expressed his willingness to undertake an official visit later this year to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and avenues for further strengthening ties between the two countries.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and consultations on matters of mutual interest and regional significance in the days ahead.
