Islamabad, July 4,2026: Syedah Marriyah Ali, the newly appointed Director for Canada and Latin America in the Americas Division at Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, received Cuban Ambassador Damián Cordero for a meeting in Islamabad.
Deputy Director Aaliya Hassan was also present during the meeting, where Ambassador Damián Cordero congratulated Syedah Marriyah Ali on her appointment and thanked the Pakistani side for what he described as a productive discussion.
During the meeting, the Cuban envoy briefed Pakistani officials on the challenges currently facing Cuba and informed them about Havana’s decision to raise at the United Nations its concerns regarding the US blockade, what he described as a false media narrative against Cuba, and the threat of military action by the United States government.
The ambassador also shared supporting data on these issues and handed over the text of a statement delivered by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla during a recent press conference in Cuba.
The two sides also reviewed matters related to the sixth round of Pakistan-Cuba political consultations held in Havana in April 2025, with particular focus on cooperation in education and increasing scholarships for Pakistani students to study medicine and other disciplines in Cuba.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges in line with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations.
