BBL season opener to be held in Chennai on December 12 between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades
Sydney (IPS): Cricket Australia has announced that, for the first time in the history of the Big Bash League (BBL), the tournament’s opening match will be played outside Australia.
According to Cricket Australia, the BBL season opener will take place on December 12 in Chennai, India, featuring Perth Scorchers against Melbourne Renegades.
BBL officials said hosting the opening match in India will give the league greater global recognition and help expand its international reach.
The BBL schedule was jointly unveiled by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The ceremony took place during a visit to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where the two leaders officially released the tournament schedule.
