Gilani meets renowned boxer Amir Khan

Islamabad, July 19, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with internationally acclaimed British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan at his official residence in Islamabad today. During the meeting, the two discussed youth engagement in constructive activities, the promotion of sports, Pakistan’s positive image at the international level, the role of overseas Pakistanis, the country’s overall political situation, and other matters of mutual interest.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani praised Amir Khan’s outstanding achievements on the international stage, stating that through his hard work, talent, and determination, he has brought great pride not only to Pakistan but also to Pakistanis around the world. He said that sports are an effective means of promoting discipline, resilience, teamwork, and a positive mindset among young people. He emphasized that encouraging sports and nurturing young talent are essential for the country’s future.

The Chairman Senate also paid tribute to the valuable contributions of overseas Pakistanis, noting that they continue to enhance Pakistan’s image globally through their achievements and play a significant role in the country’s development. He further shared that during his political career, he had served as Federal Minister in several ministries, where he consistently attached special importance to the promotion of sports and healthy recreational activities.

Amir Khan thanked the Chairman Senate for the warm welcome and said that Pakistan remains a source of pride and identity for him. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting youth welfare, encouraging sports, and projecting a positive image of Pakistan across the world.

The meeting was also attended by Ali Syed and members of Amir Khan’s family. Amir Khan informed the Chairman Senate that the establishment of a boxing academy and sports complex in Karachi is under consideration and that he is working in collaboration with the Pakistan Peoples Party to promote sports in the country.

Amir Khan also shared his intention to begin an active political career, stating that he wishes to enter politics to serve the people. Chairman Senate appreciated his aspiration and remarked that the participation of talented and accomplished young individuals in politics is a positive development for the country’s progress and prosperity.
