Islamabad, July 21, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability during a meeting with Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni, who is on an official visit to Pakistan.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister House, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Syed Tauqir Shah, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and other senior government officials.
Welcoming the Iranian minister and his delegation, the prime minister recalled his visit to Tehran earlier this month to attend the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei. He conveyed his respectful regards and best wishes to Supreme Leader His Eminence Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.
Expressing concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region, the prime minister urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further destabilize the region. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to play the role of an honest and sincere mediator and facilitator, while reaffirming the country’s unwavering commitment to promoting regional peace and stability.
Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni thanked the prime minister for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation and conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Iranian leadership.
He said he was leading a high-level delegation to further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran through enhanced cooperation.
The Iranian interior minister also expressed appreciation for the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, which he said contributed to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Momeni further thanked the prime minister for travelling to Tehran to attend the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, describing the visit as a reflection of the close ties between the two neighbouring countries.
