Islamabad, September 6, 2026: Pakistan has strongly condemned the demolition of a century-old mosque in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, describing the action as another manifestation of what it called a broader campaign to erase Islamic heritage.
Responding to media queries regarding the demolition on September 5, Foreign Office spokesperson Ambassador Sajjad Haider Khan said Pakistan strongly condemned the destruction of the historic place of worship.
The spokesperson described the demolition as a “reprehensible action” against a historic Islamic site and linked it to what Pakistan termed an Islamophobic and Hindutva-driven campaign targeting Islamic heritage.
He said the demolition of the historic Babri Masjid in 1992 remained an enduring symbol of religious intolerance, prejudice and hatred.
Pakistan called upon the international community to take immediate cognizance of what it described as the systematic persecution of Muslims by Indian authorities and the continued desecration and destruction of their places of worship.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said Indian authorities must be held accountable for actions that undermine fundamental religious freedoms and the cultural heritage of minorities, particularly Muslims.
