Lahore, July 26, 2026: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced two changes to the national Test squad after opener Abdullah Fazal was ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Test series against the West Indies and the upcoming three-match Test tour of England due to injury.
According to the PCB, Abdullah Fazal sustained an injury during the Caribbean tour and underwent an MRI scan. Following a medical assessment, the left-handed opener was advised to begin a rehabilitation programme and was declared unavailable for the rest of the West Indies series as well as Pakistan’s subsequent Test tour of England.
In his absence, the selectors have recalled Abdullah Shafique to the Test squad.
The PCB has also included Saud Shakeel as an additional batting option for the remainder of the West Indies tour. However, his participation in the England series will depend on his fitness.
The first Test between Pakistan and the West Indies is currently underway at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, where the opening day’s play was significantly affected by rain and bad light. At stumps, the West Indies were 194 for three in 67 overs, with Kavem Hodge unbeaten on 83 and Shai Hope contributing 39 runs.
Following the conclusion of the two-match Test series in the Caribbean, Pakistan will travel to England for a three-match Test series. The opening Test will be played at Headingley in Leeds from August 19 to 23, followed by the second Test at Lord’s from August 27 to 31. The third and final Test is scheduled to be held at Edgbaston, Birmingham, from September 9 to 13.
