Glasgow, August 2, 2026: Pakistan concluded its 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign with just one medal after boxer Fatima Zahra claimed a historic bronze in the women’s 60kg event, marking the country’s lowest medal haul in nearly three decades.
Pakistan fielded a 21-member contingent across multiple disciplines at the Glasgow Games but returned with only a single medal, making it one of the nation’s poorest performances in Commonwealth Games history.
The result is Pakistan’s lowest medal tally since the 1998 Commonwealth Games, when the country secured only one silver medal. The Glasgow campaign also stands as Pakistan’s weakest showing in the past 36 years, with the only poorer result coming in 1990, when the country failed to win any medal.
Fatima Zahra’s bronze medal was a landmark achievement, as she became the first Pakistani female boxer to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games. In recognition of her historic accomplishment, she was also chosen to carry Pakistan’s flag during the closing ceremony.
Pakistan’s strongest medal hopes had rested on Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem, who also served as the country’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
After qualifying for the men’s javelin throw final with an opening effort of 78.63 metres, Nadeem was unable to defend the Commonwealth title he won in Birmingham in 2022. He finished ninth in the final with a best throw of 77.41 metres, missing out on the top-eight places required to continue beyond the opening three rounds.
Fellow Pakistani javelin thrower Yasir Sultan also failed to progress after finishing 14th in the qualification round with a best throw of 74.36 metres.
Pakistan’s hopes of adding another medal on the final day were also dashed when experienced judoka Shah Hussain Shah suffered a first-round defeat in the men’s judo competition.
The national contingent also featured athletes in wrestling, weightlifting, swimming and boxing, but none managed to secure a podium finish despite several competitive performances.
The disappointing campaign marked a sharp decline from Pakistan’s showing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the country won seven medals, including two gold, three silver and two bronze.
With Fatima Zahra’s historic bronze standing as Pakistan’s only medal, the national contingent ended the Glasgow 2026 Games with its smallest medal haul in almost three decades.
