Port of Spain, August 4, 2026: Abdullah Shafique marked his return to Test cricket with a superb unbeaten century as Pakistan seized control on the second day of the second Test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval on Tuesday.
At stumps, Pakistan had reached 266-2 in 66 overs in reply to West Indies’ first-innings total of 344, trailing by just 78 runs with Abdullah Shafique and captain Babar Azam unbeaten at the crease.
Playing his first Test since October 2025, Abdullah Shafique remained unbeaten on 107 from 185 deliveries, an innings featuring 10 fours and two sixes. Babar provided excellent support with an unbeaten 86 off 126 balls, striking 10 fours and a six as he moved closer to his maiden Test century against the West Indies.
The pair extended their unbroken third-wicket partnership to 168 runs, dominating the West Indies bowling attack throughout the final session and placing Pakistan firmly in command of the contest.
Pakistan’s innings began with an early setback when experienced opener Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for 14 in the eighth over with the score on 34.
Abdullah then joined young opener Azan Awais, and the duo added 64 runs for the second wicket to stabilise the innings.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican broke the partnership by trapping Azan lbw for a well-made 55 off 71 deliveries, an innings that included 10 boundaries.
Babar then joined Abdullah at the crease, and the experienced pair ensured Pakistan maintained the momentum before extending their partnership throughout the final session.
Earlier, West Indies resumed the day on 239-5 and added 105 runs for their remaining five wickets before being bowled out for 344 in 105.4 overs.
Overnight batters Justin Greaves and captain Roston Chase frustrated Pakistan’s bowlers by extending their partnership before Ali Usman dismissed Greaves for a top score of 73 from 150 balls, including nine boundaries.
Chase went on to complete a valuable 70 off 126 deliveries with 11 fours before he was bowled by Ubaid Shah.
Kemar Roach contributed 19, while Shamar Joseph made eight before both were dismissed by Sajid Khan as West Indies slipped to 326-9. Jayden Seales and Warrican added 18 runs for the final wicket before Sajid ended the innings by removing Seales.
Sajid Khan was Pakistan’s most successful bowler with figures of 4-85, while Mohammad Ali, Ali Usman and Ubaid Shah claimed two wickets each.
With eight wickets in hand and an established partnership at the crease, Pakistan will look to erase the remaining deficit and build a substantial first-innings lead on the third day.
