Rawalpindi, August 7, 2026: Security forces killed 10 terrorists in two separate intelligence-based engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including eight who attempted to attack military checkposts in South Waziristan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday.

According to the military’s media wing, the terrorists belonged to the Indian-sponsored Fitna al Khwarij, a term used by the state for militants affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

In the first operation, a group of terrorists attempted to assault security forces’ checkposts in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan district. The attack was effectively repulsed by troops, triggering an intense exchange of fire in which eight terrorists were killed.

In a separate engagement in Dir district, security forces neutralized two more terrorists during an operation.

The ISPR said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who were actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area.

It added that sanitization operations were underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists, reaffirming that security forces would continue operations to eradicate the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to the security forces for successfully eliminating the terrorists and commended their professionalism in foiling the attack on the Azam Warsak checkposts.

“The nation stands with its brave security forces and law enforcement agencies and deeply values their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism,” the President said, adding that the designs of terrorist elements operating under Indian sponsorship would be defeated at all costs.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the successful operations, reaffirming the government’s resolve to continue the fight against terrorism.

“The nefarious designs of elements spreading terrorism under Indian patronage will be thwarted at any cost. The government and the entire nation stand with the security forces in the war against terrorism,” the Prime Minister said.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), violence linked to terrorist attacks and counterterrorism operations intensified significantly in July, making it the deadliest month of 2026. The Islamabad-based think tank reported that 205 people were killed during the month, including 112 security personnel.
