Islamabad, August 19, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Wednesday met Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan Paulo Miguel Guedes Dominguez and discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, Gilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Portugal in key areas including trade, investment, agriculture, information technology, education, culture and the blue economy.
He invited Portuguese companies and investors to explore Pakistan’s emerging economic potential and establish mutually beneficial business partnerships.
The Chairman Senate also underlined the importance of parliamentary cooperation and stronger people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Portugal. He called for greater collaboration in labour mobility and closer links between Pakistani and Portuguese universities through student and faculty exchanges and joint research initiatives.
Gilani appreciated Portugal’s continued support for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status, describing it as an important contribution to strengthening bilateral economic ties.
He also highlighted the valuable role of the Pakistani community in Portugal, describing it as an important bridge between the two countries and a contributor to stronger people-to-people relations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to closer engagement and expanding cooperation across multiple areas, with a shared resolve to further strengthen Pakistan–Portugal relations.
