Islamabad, August 23, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has called for enhanced trade, investment and socio-political cooperation between Pakistan and Qatar during a meeting with a high-level Qatari delegation led by Sheikh Nayef Bin Eid Al Thani, a prominent businessman and senior member of the Qatari royal family.
Welcoming the delegation, Gilani highlighted the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Qatar, describing the bilateral ties as rooted in shared history, culture, faith and centuries-old trade links.
The Senate chairman stressed the need to further strengthen the relationship by expanding trade and investment and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Gilani also briefed the Qatari delegation on his initiative of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), being held in Islamabad under the theme “Peace, Security and Development” in the contemporary global environment. He appreciated the participation of the Speaker of Qatar in the conference.
Highlighting Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting peace and dialogue at regional and international levels, Gilani also underscored the significance of the Makkah Accord in promoting unity, peace and stability among Muslim countries.
He appreciated Sheikh Nayef’s entrepreneurial vision and his efforts to promote stronger economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Qatar.
The chairman invited Qatari investors to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in tourism, agriculture, energy and other sectors offering potential for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Sheikh Nayef thanked Gilani for the warm hospitality and appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace, dialogue, development and regional cooperation. He also commended the Makkah Accord, expressing hope that it would contribute to greater regional stability, security and unity in the Muslim world.
The Qatari delegation expressed keen interest in exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan and emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral relations through increased trade, investment and broader cooperation.
Sheikh Nayef also underscored the importance of facilitating the Pakistani diaspora in Qatar and addressing matters concerning their welfare.
Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador of the ISC, Ms Misbah Khar, also attended the meeting.
