Bangkok, August 23, 2026: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has approved a series of significant governance reforms, including the inclusion of Afghanistan among the full-member boards eligible to assume the ACC presidency, following its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bangkok.
Representatives from all ACC member countries attended the meeting, which concluded on August 22 and approved several key decisions concerning the council’s governance structure, including the election of its Executive Board, rotation of the ACC presidency and the formation of various committees.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) Cricket Board Vice-President Khalid Al Zarooni was unanimously elected ACC Vice-President by the AGM.
Among the non-Test-playing full members, the presidents of the Qatar Cricket Association and Singapore Cricket Association were elected to the ACC Executive Board for two-year terms.
The meeting also elected Maldives’ Mohamed Faisal and Bahrain Cricket Federation’s Mohamed Mansoor to the Executive Board as representatives of the associate members.
A major decision was the approval of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) as a full-member board eligible to assume the ACC presidency.
Under the previous rotation arrangement, the ACC presidency was shared among Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India. Following the latest decision, Afghanistan has also become eligible to lead the continental cricket body.
ACC President Syed Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the decisions and congratulated the newly elected Vice-President and Executive Board members.
“Cricket in Asia has always been more than a game. It is a shared language that connects nations, cultures and generations,” Naqvi said.
He said the decisions taken at the AGM reflected the maturity of the ACC’s governance and the collective resolve of member boards to build institutions capable of serving Asian cricket in the long term.
Naqvi also thanked member boards for demonstrating a spirit of unity and cooperation, saying the responsibility now was to carry the council’s vision forward with discipline and commitment for current and future generations of Asian cricketers.
